The Fund Creators of Your Community Foundation regularly inspire us with the motivations and heart behind their philanthropic goals. We are grateful to the Fund Creators who have agreed to let us share their story so that others may find inspiration to further consider their own philanthropic goals.
Our Fund Creators establish funds with Your Community Foundation because they provide a simple, powerful, and personal approach to giving. Donor-advised funds allow Fund Creators to make a gift, receive significant tax benefits, and then remain actively involved in suggesting uses for their gift.
Peggy Harris had the vision to establish a fund with the Community Foundation in 2006. Creating her fund was a team effort--working with the Foundation and her CPA, her attorney and her financial advisor, Mrs. Harris created the Thomas G. Ramey and Peggy Huff Harris Charitable Fund and planned to provide its funding through a bequest from her estate. Working with her team and reflecting on causes important to her and those she loved, Mrs. Harris chose to designate five local organizations, two national organizations, and the Community Foundation itself as the beneficiaries of her fund.
Mrs. Harris passed away in 2007, and when her estate closed, it provided the financial resources to endow her fund so that the organizations she designated will receive support every year...forever. As a result of her planning and foresight, treasured organizations will continue to do their work--teaching children to read, bringing beautiful art to the community, feeding the hungry, and more.
It is our privilege to work to connect our Fund Creators' passions with the needs that matter to them and create a lasting legacy on the community. To learn more about how you can establish a fund, contact the CFGJ staff at or by .
